How a 'Messy' Home Can Help You Reach Your Target Market
Nov 05, 2024I know you might be thinking, “But my house is messy. I don’t want to show that. And I don’t want to clean it up every time I want to take a picture.” (Am I right?) And I get it. But here’s the thing…
… when you’re real, the focus shifts.
People aren’t zooming in on that pile of laundry in the corner (which, by the way, everyone has!).
They’re drawn to the story you’re telling.
If you’re just standing there awkwardly posing, sure, they might notice the clutter. But when you capture a real moment, that “mess” becomes part of the story, not the star of the show.
Think of it like watching a documentary.
Do you care if the background is perfectly curated? No! You’re hooked on the raw, unpolished moments that feel real. That’s where trust comes from.
That’s what builds trust with your audience — they see you in your real life, not some polished, artificial version of it.
And hey, if the mess really bugs you, filters can be your best friend. Filters can help you tone down distractions and focus on what’s important, making the “mess” fade into the background. I teach my clients and students simple techniques that help them organize their environment without requiring a full-on cleanup every time they want to take a picture. It works like a charm. But really,
start by focusing on the story you’re trying to tell.
It’s not about you,
it’s not about the background.
it’s about the message you’re conveying through your images and the experience you’re sharing to inspire people to make changes in their lives.
I remember one of my clients, a mom of two boys, thought her home’s “Lego battlefield” was too chaotic for photos. (If you’ve ever stepped on those little pieces, you know what she meant!) But with just a few tweaks, she turned that playroom into a relatable, real-life masterpiece that moms everywhere could connect with.
Sometimes, what feels like a mess to you is actually a powerful tool to reach your market.
